On September 6th 2011, Almas Jiwani was invited at the 10th Annual Meeting of the Network of Women Parliamentarians of the Americas and the 11th General Assembly of the Parliamentary Confederation of the Americas (COPA). Addressing the Quebec Parliament, Ms. Jiwani emphasized the role of Quebec in empowering women and ushering a new era of gender equality in association with UN Women. At the event, Ms. Jiwani also delivered the keynote address to open the conference on the theme of “Women’s Commitment to a Better Future: Water, Poverty, and Sustainable Development.” In her address, Ms. Jiwani will explore the alarming fact that, despite accounting for over one-‐half of the potential talent base across the world, the potential economic, social, and environmental contributions of women have largely been unutilized and underutilized.
