The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence begin on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25 and end on International Human Rights Day on December 10.

They also include the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women on December 6. The 16 Days of Activism is a time to both reflect on violence against women and to take action to end it.

Violence Against Indigenous Women

While women and girls tend to be more vulnerable to many forms of violence than men and boys, statistics show that Aboriginal women are three times more likely than non-Aboriginal women to experience violence. As we mark the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence, we know that Canadians are disturbed by the disappearance and death of nearly 1,200 Aboriginal women and girls. This is an ongoing national tragedy that must be brought to an end.
