On Sunday June 5th, 2011 Ms. Jiwani and Justin Trudeau, MP , Papineau joined hands as VIP guests of Honor at the World Partnership Walk being organized at Parc Maisonneuve in Montreal, Quebec. Ms. Jiwani’s participation in the walk was part of the Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) endeavor to engage thousands of participants in ten cities across Canada in a common effort to bring hope and renewal to some of the poorest communities in the world. By participating in the Walk, Ms. Jiwani showed her support for international development and help fulfill the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and also raised money for the Aga Khan Foundation’s humanitarian projects.
As a result of Ms. Jiwani’s and many other participant’s engagement with the Walk, last year’s event saw nearly 40,000 Canadians come together to raise more than $6 million dollars. All funds that are raised from the World Partnership Walk are allocated to programs in developing countries, targeting areas of greatest need and providing long-‐term sustainable solutions -‐ like revitalizing a rural economy, ensuring clean water and sanitation, strengthening community-‐based organizations and educating new generations of girls and women.
