TORONTO, ONTARIO–(Marketwired – Sept. 16, 2013) – Almas Jiwani, President of UN Women National Committee Canada, will provide the keynote address at the Addis Life Design’s project to support the community for single mothers and children in Ethiopia on September 19, 2013.
“As in many African countries, women in Ethiopia face real challenges. Too many women continue to face obstacles in obtaining access to adequate healthcare services, education and economic opportunities. Too many women are victims of violence and negative attitudes on violence against women and girls persist. When women are at the center of development, where their voice is heard and when they are protected from violence, the economy improves,” says Jiwani. “I would like to lend my support to this project and help bring about real change for single mothers and children in Ethiopia.”
“Providing protection and support for women and children is an important part of our work in Ethiopia and we have already launched a pilot project for young girls and single mothers in Addis Ababa. We are thrilled that Ms. Jiwani could join us at our event, and support our project, by sharing with us her valuable insight and experience with empowering women and overcoming obstacles – an integral component in helping us to accomplish our project’s goals and implement Addis Life Design’s mission,” says Liliana Rusicior, event organizer.
