Almas Jiwani, President of UN Women Canada National Committee, was a distinguished speaker at The Women’s International Trade Fair (SIFEM) on Monday June 18, 2012, she discussed “The place of women in legal decisions and their contribution to the establishment of human rights.” The trade fair aims to encourage women’s initiatives at the local, national and international levels to improve social cohesion and contribute to the prominence of women in the sectors of influence represented at SIFEM 2012, within a perspective of cooperation, mutual assistance and global solidarity among women. The event brought together 5 continents, 150 States, 1,500 exhibitors and over 500,000 participants were expected. SIFEM also presented Jiwani with a special award during the Gala Dinner on June 21, to celebrate her life-long dedication to advancing gender equality and the many successes she has achieved throughout her service career.
