TV personality. Yoga teacher. Women’s rights advocate. First lady.
Forget any pre-conceived notions you may have about our new prime minister’s better half, because Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau is anything but a textbook political wife. It seems to only make sense, considering her tattooed, athletic, pro-marijuana husband doesn’t seem to be taking pages out of any former PM’s book either.
The legacy of Justin Trudeau’s family catapulted the Liberal leader to celebrity status long before his government won a majority in the recent October election, and Grégoire can certainly hold her own at the centre of public attention.
Most recently, the political power couple used their draw to increase awareness for WE Day, an international movement aimed at empowering youth. They helped bring together 16,000 inspired students at the Ottawa event held on November 10.
Introduced as the “amazing wife” of Prime Minister Trudeau, Grégoire came out beaming and vibrant alongside her “hubby” to greet a roaring crowd, and she immediately launched into a motivational speech, being no stranger to charity events of this nature:
“The way you treat yourself when you’re alone and nobody is watching is the way that you can transform the relationship that you have with yourself, but also with every other person that’s around you in this world—and your capacity to affect change. With all my love as a mother, as a wife, as a woman, I encourage you to really, really foster so much love and respect for yourself, because you’re all amazing human beings!”
