Almas Jiwani, President Emiratus UN Women Canada and CEO of the Almas Jiwani Foundation is truly honoured and humbled to receive one of the 150 medallions in commemoration of the Magna Carta’s 2015 exhibit in Canada on the piece’s 800th year anniversary. This 24-karat gold medallion features the Great Seal of King John, affixed to the Magna Carta upon its creation in 1215. Without this historical piece, the concepts of democracy and human rights would not be nearly the same as they are today. Ms Jiwani cherishes the Magna Carta’s key principles of equality, freedom, and justice, and hopes to perpetuate its ideals by continuing to strive and fight for gender equality.
