UN Women President Almas Jiwani Awarded with Commemorative Stamps, Athens, Greece

The Government of Greece in association with the Hellenic Post Office Authority of Greece and Ms. Loula Loi Alafoyiannis, Founder and Executive Global President, EAWC, has honored Almas Jiwani, President of UNIFEM Canada, with a commemorative stamp in recognition of her lifelong commitment and contribution to advocating for women’s equality rights around the world. Ms. Jiwani is one of 16 distinguished honorees selected from across the world to receive the 2010 Artemis Award. She is the second Canadian recipient in the award’s history, and the first UNIFEM president honoured with a commemorative stamp in Greece. The announcement was made on July 10th 2010 by Ms. Alafoyiannis, Mr. Nikitas Kaklamanis, The Honorable Mayor of the City of Athens, Ms. Zisi Rodoula, The Vice President of the Hellenic Parliament, Former Deputy Minister for the Environment, Deputy Minister of the Economy for External Affairs, Member Parliament for Magnisia Perfecture, The President of the Greek National Tourist Office, Mr. Nikolaos Kanellopoulos, and Mrs. Dionysia Theodora Avgerinopoulou, Member of Hellenic Parliament, in recognition of the honorees’ achievements in promoting cross-­‐cultural dialogue and humanitarian development of women across the world.
