World Bank Civil Society Forum, Washington DC

In Washington, DC at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) , Ms. Jiwani was asked to head the panel entitled “Social Accountability of Institutions such as the World Bank and the IMF to Citizens in Fragile States.” In the course of her engagement with the panel, Jiwani discussed the issue of gender based violence and the role of women in peace, security and stabilization through truth and reconciliation mechanisms. Through virtue of her address, Ms. Jiwani brought attention to strategies to increase women’s participation in post conflict processes.

John Garrison, Senior Civil Society Specialist from the World Bank stated regarding Ms. Jiwani’s participation: “It is important to have knowledgeable international development specialists such as Ms. Jiwani and others to attend the Annual Meetings. The panels she and other gender specialists participated in during the Civil Society Policy Forum on addressing violence against women, generated thoughtful analysis and useful recommendations for the Bank’s work in this area.”
